If you want to direct a domain that you have to another domain name or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's forwarded to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site which you have set up, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that this type of a record set up for the main domain renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting plan from our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account via the Hepsia CP that comes with each plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, that will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added this sort of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have created an Internet site through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, such as Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks inside your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to set up a CNAME record without difficulty. If you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to point a domain name to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain name to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it's not going to require more than 3 clicks to create this kind of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you are there, all that you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video in the CP concerning how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
